Souris River Canoe Builders | Friday Oct 02, 2009
After my canoe trip to the Quetico Wilderness in Canada, we happened upon the very place where my canoe was born. I ran up to the building with a big smile and asked an employee if he could show us around. He sent his co-worker on a lunch break, and proceeded to give us a tour from the beginning to the end of the entire kevlar canoe making process. I was in heaven. I got to see and touch the actual "form" that my canoe was formed in. The entire process is amazing and meticulous. This photo is where the finished canoes are hung until the big truck comes and distributes them to the shops around the U.S. In my mind, the Souris River canoe (made in Atikokan, Ontario Canada) is the finest lightweight canoe you can buy.
